Our Story

Our Beginning

HOPE Neuro-Acupuncture Rehab was founded by Dr. James Lu, a dedicated guide for recovery with over twenty-five years of acupuncture and physical therapy experience. He holds a doctoral degree in Physical Therapy and a Master's of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, allowing him to uniquely blend these disciplines for the benefit of every patient.

Dr. Lu was previously the co-owner of Zhu's Neuro-Acupuncture and Rehab Center in San Jose. As an acupuncturist, physical therapist, world-wide educator, and national Chen Tai Chi champion, Dr. Lu has spent over two decades in the medical profession blending Eastern and Western techniques in a unique and profound way.

Training with Dr. Zhu

From 2006 to 2020, Dr. Lu had the opportunity to study under two renowned masters: Dr. Shi, Xue-Min, creator of the stroke acupuncture technique Xing Nao Kai Qiao (XNKQ), and Dr. Zhu, Ming-Qing, known for "Zhu's Scalp Acupuncture" (ZSA).

Dr. Zhu opened his eyes to the wonders of scalp acupuncture and gave him the chance to work and teach alongside him globally since 2010. Dr. Zhu is world-famous for his instant results using scalp acupuncture for stroke, and has been practicing acupuncture for over six decades.

In 2011, Dr. Lu began following Professor Ming Qing Zhu's work and completed two years of courses in Zhu's Scalp Acupuncture training. In the same year, he pioneered the first outpatient acupuncture program at the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA).

The Birth of Neuro-Acupuncture

Dr. Lu discovered that acupuncture can provide immediate pain relief and neurological improvements, and when combined with physical medicine, the effects are even more profound, leading to maximum recovery potential in less time and with minimal discomfort.

He evolved the technique of Zhu's Scalp Acupuncture into Neuro-Acupuncture Rehab by combining it with physical therapy, among other Western approaches. For over 20 years, the clinic has dedicated itself to perfecting this innovative technique.

Though most commonly used for post-stroke recovery, Neuro-Acupuncture also treats many other neurological problems: Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Traumatic Brain Injury, phantom pain, PTSD, Autism, anxiety, and pain.
